Halfway to #100happydays

Some of you might remember the little project from my birthday?! To refresh your memory, go check it out #100happydays. The good news? It has reached the halfway mark… whoop, whoop! For someone who has attempted to start a diary probably a hundred times, this is an absolute achievement. I always had the best intentions of laying my brilliant thoughts onto paper, but in all honesty I got distracted and bored before it even commenced. Truth be told people, it’s a damn right miracle that this blog is still alive! I figured out that I like to babble about what is floating in my head and let’s face it, in the digital age typing is just a breeze compared to putting pen to paper. Plus, there was always the whoops-I-made-a-typo-so-I-fixed-it-with-tipp-ex mess.
With this project, things were even more simple. See something that makes you happy, snap a photo and hashtag it! I figured I like to take pictures, so why not try? My promise to you is not to fall in the 71% below… why don’t you take the challenge too?

¡Ándale! ¡Arriba!

In the words of Speedy Gonzales: Go on! Up! Although it was more like: Go down! Since we did a fair amount of diving. Basically it boils down to bladdy amazing! What? Where? Mexico, people… Google it and scribble onto your bucket list. You will not be sorry! In my case the opportunity was presented in a neat little package right at my doorstep. It was a no-brainer… Hell yes, I’m coming with!
We flew into Cancun and were going to meet up with friends who were already there and had organized the first night’s accommodation and some diving. As for the rest of the trip, we were going to wing it – my kind of holiday! As we prepared for landing we could spot Isla Mujeres (Island of Women) in the distance. A small island off the coast of Cancun that we definitely planned to fit into the wing it catagory.

cozumel… diving in paradise!

Now let me warn you right from the start, if you plan to go on this trip… It will be hot. It will be humid. Make peace with it. What you can declare warfare on, is the bugs. There are loads of them, so rather just slather yourself with bug lotion or spray. Re-apply frequently. Especially the kind that contains deet. Some people will tell you how terrible this stuff is and that you might possible grow a third nipple. In my opinion growing a third nipple vs being eaten alive by mosquitoes? I will choose deet with a song in my heart and a hop in my step – the stuff works like a dream. Moving on…

First there is Family

Well, for me at least that always rings true. Before I was going to start the Journey, the intention was to spend as much time with my family. It started with 6 weeks spent on the farm in Namibia which I wrote a little a bit about – see one of my earlier posts. The time had come to spend some time with my family on the States side. After New York, I headed towards Douglasville, GA to hook up with my brother AKA The Kudu, his lovely wife and my sister-in-law, Dawn, plus the brand spanking new addition to the family, Claire.

I’m thinking Paternoster?

This weekend past we made a roadtrip to a picturesque little town on the coast of South Carolina, called Habersham. We… you ask? Well since you could probably surmise from my New York post, I was heading to Atlanta – more specifically, Douglasville – to visit my fa-mi-lia . So it was my brother, Kudu, my sis-in-law, Dawn, myself and the belle of the ball… the girl of the hour… drumroll: Claire, the Bear AKA Tootsie Roll. Yes, we are that infatuated.

So why Habersham? We went to visit and old friend of Dawn and her husband, Edie and Peter, who has turned out to be my new favorite people and I can assure you a good time was had by all! Now, with introductions out of the way, let’s get down to Paternoster… I mean, Habersham!
